The Dispenser of Enthusiasm

One of the first leadership traits to go when the pressure is on in your life and ministry is your ability to encourage others. Your passion and enthusiasm that once powered a vibrant atmosphere has waned to a point where even a miracle could barely garner a whimper of ‘hallelujah’ from your overwhelmed heart.

That may seem a little extreme, but I can guarantee that at least once or twice you have fantasized about moving to a monastery and taking a vow of silence... at least no one will bother you.

Now if these thoughts are a regular occurrence in your week, please talk to someone you trust, the world does not need another burnt-out pastor... God will bring you through it.

But for the rest of us who are tempted to leave the very thing that got you this far... here is your new job description:

You are the "Dispenser of Enthusiasm".

There should be no person in your team more excited about the possibilities of what God has set before you. Enthusiasm and passion are two of the most important traits to leading a team, and your role as leader, especially in a weekend service role. This is not a question of personality or temperament, it simply comes down to communicating effectively the urgency you feel to serve the kingdom of God.

Take it as a personal challenge to out enthuse every last person on your team — and most importantly, do it when you don’t feel like it... (Hello Sunday 8am service).

When the disciples renamed Joseph and gave him the name Barnabas (Son of Encouragement - Acts 4:36), I can imagine him standing there amazed and congratulating them all on such a great idea - your Church always has more room for encouragers.

"One man has enthusiasm for 30 minutes, another for 30 days, but it is the man who has it for 30 years who makes a success of his life."
-Edward B. Butler

"Like the chicken and the egg, enthusiasm and success seem to go together.
We suspect, however, that enthusiasm comes first. If you hope to succeed at anything in this world, polish up your enthusiasm and hang on to it."

-John Luther

"No one keeps up his enthusiasm automatically. Enthusiasm must be nourished with new actions, new aspirations, new efforts, new vision. It is one’s own fault if his enthusiasm is gone; he has failed to feed it."
-Papyrus

“I am the Dispenser of Enthusiasm” - Say it to yourself 21 times before your weekend service and live each moment with your team to infect them with the Encouragement virus.
