Every Part Of The Body Is Vital

Six months after snapping my right ACL and tearing my MCL and meniscus, I am more aware than ever that when it comes to the Body "If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honoured, every part rejoices with it. " (1 Corinthians 12:26)

At the start of 2010, I did not even know I had an ACL, (I always felt nauseous during anatomy classes), but I can testify that during this year, there is no one piece of my body that has had more attention than my knee, (and in particular the ligaments that you cannot see which are responsible for all the movement I make that you can see). I have encountered firsthand the truth "On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honourable we treat with special honour. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty." (1 Corinthians 12:22-23)

Every single Christian person is placed in the Body by God for His purposes. "But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as He wanted them to be." (1 Corinthians 12:18)

I would suggest that God does not esteem or value any part more than any other part, and has set each part in place so that the WHOLE will function effectively. In fact "If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body." (1 Corinthians 12:19-20)

It is imperative that we value and esteem every single part of The Body, and not only the visible and more known parts. I think in our celebrity-obsessed culture, we must ensure that we do not think that if someone is better known, visible, or being used in a unique way by God at a particular time, that it makes them in any way better than any other part of the body.

We need to inspire people to take their place in the Body that God has assigned, and not devalue that place and aspire to a more prominent place.

Prominence and significance is not the same thing.

The liver is not prominent in the human body...but it is extremely significant.

We should not aspire to be the biggest and the best, but rather to be all that God has called us to be, and to do all that God has called us to do. This needs to be more than a good concept if we are to have a healthy, whole, effectively functioning Body.

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body.

Take your place...play your part.

Hillsong Collected

Whilst lying in bed this cold winters morning with my iPad bible (gotta love the 21st century) open to Matthew 5 in The Message, I'm yet again stirred and reminded of how blessed I really am.
