Here We Go Again!

Hillsong Collected

The college year has just begun and already I am so blessed by the amazing people that have come to join us at Hillsong College. Last week we held our orientation, which is always a fun time for us, as much as the students. I love this time as we have powerful meetings filled with praise, worship and the Word, tours of the city, and BBQs with other church people. All of this helps us to frame expectations, form connections and get to know the students while they adjust to this season of college life! It’s a time when so much is happening and they are having such fun, that I have to remind them to call their loved ones back home!

I have been enjoying the opportunity to sit with these people and hear their ‘God’ stories of how they came to be here. How money just ‘came’, situations and circumstance tried to stop some, but they found miraculous intervention. It causes me to stop and be in awe of the power of the Spirit at work in our circumstances, so often unseen till the ‘last minute’. I am drawn back to reflecting on the first few chapters of the book of Acts. A time when people from all over the world gathered together and the Spirit came and filled them causing them to rise with dreams and power to create a new chapter in history.

This week, classes have commenced and all of our returning students have rejoined us. I had missed them being around! The impact they have on our church community with just their enthusiasm and zeal is so inspiring. They have truly become a part of our family here and I have been having so many coffees catching up with them. I think I'm going to have to switch to decaf after this week!

A large part of the student body is from overseas, so they have been talking about having a white Christmas. It’s a strange thing to come from that, to sunshine and warmth. I was speaking to one person who had just returned from –20C to this week 40C! It’s been so exciting to hear from many who have told me of the opportunity to preach or minister in their home churches over the break with some great results. Their friends and families have been amazed at the change and the ‘new person’ they now encounter. You’ve got to love that!

The Team Leadership intensive that I have been teaching has been such a blast. We have been working through the issues of building powerful strong teams, then workshopping their own real leadership situations to practically unwrap the theory. At the end of the day of teaching I've been tired, but a number of people stick around because I have touched on something that has hit them personally. God has been at work, and this is just the beginning....We have a whole year ahead of us!

The Passover was God's plan to save Israel but what is very interesting is the inclusion of any immigrant or slave. They only had to be circumcised, to show that they are not like the other nations but are now part of the family of promise.
