Nostalgic And Grateful
Walked past this building recently. It's the Auckland Town Hall and it's where I got SAVED almost forty years ago!!
I still remember walking in and sensing an "atmosphere" I had never experienced before. I still remember feeling amazed by the people around me, the songs, and the singing. I still remember the message spoken, and that although I didn't really understand all that was being said, it still resonated within ... and I still remember a simple "appeal" being made towards the end ... An appeal to know God!
I remember the battle inside my mind and the pace of my heart. I remember tears rolling down my face and landing on the floor. I remember thinking that "whatever this was that was knocking on the door of my heart, that it was right". My head didn't fully understand, but something deep within my heart was saying, "Yes".
That night I gave my heart to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. That night, all that I had questioned about life, death, existence, eternity and purpose became strangely clear. That night marked the beginning of what I now know will be "a never ending, eternal story" for me. (And of course, not only me, but anyone who dares to open their heart).
So ... when I occasion home to New Zealand, and when I drive or walk down Queen Street, my heart always does a little flip when I see this building.
I'm eternally grateful to my friend Lily for inviting me that night (hope they read blogs in heaven, cos that's where she is today). I'm eternally grateful to the church back then (Queen Street Assembly of God) who welcomed a young girl and invested a godly foundation into her life ... and, I'm eternally grateful to "you know Who" for loving and saving me!!!!
