On The Eve Of Conference 2011

THIS IS AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF HILLSONG CHURCH…BOBBIE AND I THINK WE ARE THE MOST BLESSED PASTORS ON THE PLANET, WE LOVE AND APPRECIATE ALL THAT YOU DO.
Somebody once told me, ‘Never let anyone know the secret behind your oil…’ In other words, never let anyone know the secrets to your success.
I’ve never been one to subscribe to that theory.
Hillsong Conference is exactly the opposite. For 25 years, you – the people of Hillsong Church - have come together to love, serve, teach and learn from the local church around the globe. You have freely shared the heart of this House with others and unreservedly released Bobbie and I to do the same. You have selflessly given of yourselves through hours upon hours of serving and volunteering. You have gone beyond the call of duty by extending your hearts to guests and delegates and for 25 years you have made them feel at home.
And I believe that you do what you do because you know that it impacts people everywhere; that the result of Hillsong Conference is changed lives and an eternal difference for the Kingdom of God.
I love that you are comfortable in being yourself. A church full of broken and restored people. A church full of young and old, comfortable in who she is. We don’t try to be anyone else and we are aware of our shortfalls but we labour to give our very best. You are people who are simply true to the heart of our church; hungry for God, prayed up, ready to give your best and live in the sphere God has appointed for us.
I don’t often talk like this and I would never want to boast without reason, but after 25 years I just wanted to encourage you to keep going...
This week, when sleep seems like a long lost relative, when crowds and bathroom queues are longer than normal - let’s keep our focus on people. Let’s be generous in our example, remember to bring supplies to the I-HEART initiative, contribute basic hygiene items and gift cards to bless our city through the Salvation Army, Mission Australia and world relief efforts. Let’s be mindful and in prayer for every guest and every delegate attending and believe that as our faith increases, those coming to Hillsong Conference will be inspired to do even MORE than we could ever accomplish.
Don’t forsake gathering together; take ownership of Hillsong Conference 2011 and pursue the voice of God this week as you sit under the brilliant teaching from our guests and the intimate, powerful worship.
As we embark on this next stage of our journey, as we invite people into our ‘home’ this week…let’s make it all about HIM.
