Kindness Is Never A One Way Street

Kindness is never a one way street - it will always come back to (affectionately) bite you, bless you, astound and surprise up you.

Years ago at Colour I cut my teeth on a message called "Kindness Rules". That was the year we gave every delegate a paper bag with a pair of colourful rubber gloves trimmed with fake fur. It was also the year most of our team had "fur balls" in their throats as we all laboured for weeks sowing that same fake fur onto the edges of 7,000 or so of those same rubber gloves. Point being (I should probably add) was that we wanted to inspire one another to kindness and acts of goodness and the gloves were a great symbol of "rolling our sleeves up and getting into the thick of life".

Anyway, I never dreamt that as we extended ourselves and our hearts that several years down the track, women such as these in the photo would be such a blessing to us.

These lovely women are just a tiny fraction of the widows and mums who are part of our big, beautiful Watoto family. They are having a BE THE CHANGE Tea Party (notice the teapot, which was this years Colour gift). They had so much fun that word has gotten out and the other Watoto village mums want to do likewise .... And it's not just about them, they're reaching out into their local community to be a blessing to others.

I love these girls ... And yes, many of them have been recipients of our generosity (along with many others around the world who partner with Watoto), but kindness has come back to bless us... their lives, their stories, their courage in the face of extreme adversity blesses and inspires us to likewise. OUR lives are richer, stronger and strengthened because of them.

Kindness given, extended, shared and sown will always come back. Whatsoever a man or woman sows, that will they also reap. Sow kindness and you'll reap not only kindness when you need it, but the fruit, rewards and joy kindness creates. And as it says in Proverbs 11:25 "...He (or she) who refreshes others, will themselves be refreshed".
